Car Seat Belt Maintenance and Care Methods

To ensure seat belts function effectively during use, routine maintenance should focus on three main aspects: cleaning, keeping them flat, and preventing abnormal wear.

1) During normal use, dust and dirt inevitably accumulate on the seat belts. They should be cleaned periodically.

To clean, first prepare a basin half-full of neutral, warm soapy water, then scrub with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse again with clean water, and finally absorb the moisture with a dry towel. Note that you should not use highly corrosive agents such as detergents or bleach, as these will reduce the durability of the seat belt. The buckle on the seat belt connector is the "gate" for seat belt extension and retraction; if it becomes dirty, it will hinder the seat belt's contraction. It should also be cleaned periodically using the same method.

2) Keep the seat belt flat, and the key is to prevent the seat belt from twisting during use.

If this is not done, many hard creases will appear on the belt surface, affecting its sensitivity during extension and retraction.

3) Avoid abnormal wear and tear on seat belts. One crucial point to remember is to avoid leaving seat belts draped over the seat back for extended periods. This not only easily soils the seat belt but also causes it to become frayed and softened due to friction from frequent getting in and out of the vehicle. Over time, the seat belt will no longer retract automatically. Therefore, seat belts should be retracted promptly after each use and only pulled out when needed.
