How to Properly Wear a Car Seatbelt
1. Adjust Seat Position
Before putting on the seatbelt, adjust the seat to a suitable position. The seat should be reclined to support your back while allowing your feet easy access to the accelerator and brake pedals. This seating position not only helps the driver maintain a good operating posture but also ensures the seatbelt functions correctly in a collision.
2. Put on the Shoulder Strap
Pull the seatbelt out of the buckle, ensuring the strap naturally crosses your shoulder and fits snugly against your body. Avoid straps that are too high or too low, as this will prevent effective restraint during a collision. Also, check the strap for twists or knots, ensuring it is smooth.
3. Put on the Lap Belt
Pass the lap belt across your hips, fitting snugly against your lower body. The lap belt should be positioned above the hip bones and below the abdomen, avoiding direct pressure on the abdomen or lower back to prevent internal organ damage during a collision.
4. Fasten the seatbelt. Insert the buckles of the shoulder strap and lap belt into their corresponding slots. A "click" sound indicates that it is properly fastened. After fastening the seatbelt, gently pull on the shoulder strap and lap belt to check their secureness.
5. Adjust the tightness. After fastening the seatbelt, adjust its tightness appropriately. A seatbelt that is too tight may restrict the occupant's breathing and movement, while one that is too loose may not effectively restrain the body in a collision. Generally, the seatbelt should fit snugly against the body but not constrict the skin.
